Fragrancenet.com Gift Guide for the winter and holiday season

by Philippa Lane

I love wonderful, one of a kind fragrances and I would like to share with you some of my favorites for the winter and holiday season. These fragrances can be given as gifts for someone you love, a special occasion, or for yourself. I especially like the classic, vintage scents that I wore many years ago when I was very young, which brings back fond memories of the past.

Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Eau De Toilette Spray 1.6 fl. oz.: This is my favorite fragrance and I enjoy wearing it both during the day or night. The atomizer still looks the same way it did thirty years ago with its signature blue, black, and silver striped cylinder shaped exterior. The scent is distinctively fresh, clean, unique, classy, and timeless with rose as the first note, followed by bergamot, and bottom notes of oakmoss, moss, musk, and vetiver. I love the top note, which smells like a true rose. It is the perfect introduction and the floral note is noticed immediately when the fragrance is released. As time goes on, the bergamot note becomes more apparent along with the bottom notes of musk and vetiver, which lingers for several hours.  Simply beautiful and timeless. Price $45.95

Joy by Jean Patou Eau De Toilette 1.0 fl. oz.:Another timeless scent is the fragrance Joy by Jean Patou. The bottle is clear with a lovely gold-tone cap. The scent is a very strong floral and was introduced to the world more than eighty years ago in 1930. This lovely fragrance is composed of many Jasmine and May Rose flowers, which are the main elements that make up the fragrance. Because the fragrance is a strong floral, it is best for evening wear. Both Rose and Jasmine are two of my favorite flowers and they are beautifully combined in Joy by Jean Patou, creating this exquisite fragrance. Price: $82.00

Ysatis Givenchy Eau De Toilette 3.3 oz.: In my late 20’s, I wore Ysatis quite a bit. In fact, I wore it during the day and night, spraying it liberally all over my hair and body. Ysatis is a woodsy, floral fragrance and can be worn during the spring, summer, fall, and winter season. It also has notes of rum, spice, and musk, which add a rich and intriguing element to the fragrance. Price:$57.99

Bijan Eau De Toilette Spray 2.5 oz.: This fragrance is elegant, rich, and perfect for evening wear.  It comes in a 2.5 oz. bottle with Bijan’s well known and uniquely designed cap that sits atop of Bijan’s famous round shaped glass bottle. Bijan consists of deep notes of oakmoss, sandalwood, and orange. The unique combination of these essential oils make this fragrance smell so wonderful. It is a versatile fragrance and can also be worn during the day, however, I prefer to wear Bijan in the evening because of its warmer notes. Price: $23.99

Samsara by Gerlain Eau De Parfum Spray 3.4 oz.: One word that describes this fragrance is...Exotic! The atomizer is a beautiful amber color and the fragrance is sweet and spicy. This is not my favorite fragrance, because I usually prefer floral scents, rather than spicy/sweet ones, but my daughter really likes Samsara and it suits her very well. Samsara is infused with oriental flowers, jasmine, sandalwood, amber, and vanilla.  If you like a warm, woodsy, rich fragrance with a touch of sweetness, then Samsara is a great choice. Price: $75.99

Many of the aforementioned fragrances I mentioned are some of my favorites that I have worn and enjoyed for decades. Also, a majority of the eau de toilettes and perfumes are available in different sizes and prices. I believe that a lovely scent can leave a lasting impression or remind us of special moments in the past.

Special memories can be made today by wearing a special fragrance that is perfect for you!
